## Emplacement
Located in the Val-de-Marne département, Charenton-le-Pont is just 7.5 kilometers from Paris. On the banks of the Marne and bordering the Bois de Vincennes, archeological digs bear witness to human settlement on this territory for over 16,000 years! Its strategic location, at the confluence of the Marne and Seine rivers, led to the construction of a bridge several millennia ago. A veritable emblem of the town, it was the only way for roads from the east to cross the city. From the Ancien Régime onwards, and even more so in the 19th and 20th centuries, Charenton-le-Pont attracted a Parisian population made up of artists, workers, employees, bourgeois and aristocrats. From the second half of the 20th century onwards, the renewal of Charenton's urban space saw the destruction of some of the town's historic districts in favor of the development of major roads, shopping centers and office buildings. Today, only the historic heart of the town, the "Bourg-du-Pont" and its "vieux Pavillon" bear witness to Charenton-le-Pont's rich historical past.
